Coca-Cola Coffee Plus Is the Caffeine Boost You Didn’t Know You Needed

Do you like Coca-Cola? Do you like coffee? You probably answered yes to both things, so you’d probably be the target audience for the new Japanese product Coca-Cola Coffee Plus, which actually has 50% more caffeine than regular coffee and 50% less calories, too. How? It’s probably sorcery, at least as far as I can tell.

This may sound like a weird combination of tastes, but apparently it actually tastes pretty good. You might remember Coca-Cola BlaK, which we had the chance to try in the United States a few years ago. It wasn’t very good. But this sounds like it could be a little tastier. According to publication Shin-Shouhin, the drink doesn’t really smell like coffee or Coke at all, which is a bit off-putting, as the two tastes compliment each other. Apparently, it has a cola-like taste, but a weird coffee aftertaste. The writers didn’t appear to really enjoy the flavor, but to each his own.

コークご乱心!? コーラにコーヒーはアリなのか、自販機限定『コカ・コーラ COFFEE PLUS』を飲んで確認! https://t.co/pUDOnY2GIr pic.twitter.com/wPW2xDi1cu

The main point of the drink is likely to be a vehicle for getting more caffeine into your body while lacing it with something more palatable like Coke, but the fact of the matter is people don’t always like the two differing flavors mixed. Personally, I still have trouble with iced coffee and liquids that aren’t milk-based. The thinness of Coke would likely put me off this weird product, but I can certainly see how its intended audience might go crazy for it. It’s probably a lot tastier than Monster Energy or something like that, that’s for sure.

If you’re interested in trying it, unfortunately it doesn’t seem as though it’s going to be coming to America any time soon, but stranger things have certainly happened. You might have more luck unearthing a bottle of Coca-Cola BlaK or perhaps importing one of these babies if you really do want to give it a whirl.
